Spring Has Arrived!

Posted on February 1, 2008

Forget about winter, focus on spring! I hope you have been looking for springs new fashions, but if you haven’t, it must be your lucky day. Here are the top trends for Spring 2008.

Bright Colors

Keyshia Cole and Leighton Meester

Bright colors and rich jewel tones are already popping up, but they’ll be even trendier this spring! Don’t be afraid to mix and match like Keyshia Cole, or wear a pop-out pair of tights like Leighton Meester did on Gossip Girl. Because hey — If you’re gonna go bright, you might as well be bold, too!

Metallic Accents

Amanda Bynes and Rachel Bilson

Sure, metallics have been “in” for awhile, but they’re still must-haves for spring! Instead of thinking big, though, think small. While rocking an oversized silver or gold satchel is still trendy, smaller metallic pieces (i.e. heels, bangles, clutches) will go hand-in-hand with solid brights this spring. For tips on how to rock metallics right, check the ensembles of Amanda Bynes and Rachel Bilson — soooo cute!

Pink Lips

Lauren Conrad

Shimmery nude and beige lips are fine for winter. But this spring is all about color — especially pink! After braving the cold, blustery weather for several months, your lips need a treat. Bring out your pucker with a hot pink gloss like Lauren Conrad did, and leave the pale pink balm in your make-up bag.

Snakeskin Bags

Rachel Bilson and Jessica Simpson

Snakeskin bags are already making a splash (just check the arm candy on Rachel Bilson and Jessica Simpson for proof!). However, this spring you’ll see tons more snakeskin satchels and clutches — and not just in neutral colors. Nope, brands like Coach, Gucci, and Tod’s are seeing snakeskin bags in Technicolor. Some of the most popular hues? Turquoise, lime green, magenta, and purple.

So what’s even better than snakeskin accessories? Fake snakeskin accessories! We’re going to rock fake snake this spring so that no snakes get hurt. On our wish list: these faux snakeskin heels ($29.50, alloy.com) . They come in magenta and silver, and we heart them!

Dark Hair

Natalie Portman

With bright colors and rich jewel tones being the hot hues on the runway, darker, richer hair color is also becoming en vogue. So much so that blondes like Ashlee Simpson are going darker — and natural brunettes like Natalie Portman are getting extra color dimension to enhance their brown strands.

Want to go dark, too? If you’re naturally blonde or have blonde highlights, visit a professional hairstylist. Already a brunette? Bed Head, Ted Gibson, Matrix, and L’Oreal Professionnel are just a handful of brands with color enhancing, made-for-brunette products.

Glowing Skin

Vanessa Hudgens and Kate Bosworth

This spring, skin is the focus. While clothes will become brighter and bolder, make-up will take a more natural turn to help balance things out. “We’re playing more with texture, and really spending a lot of time on the skin, using lots of moisturizer,” says James Boehmer, NARS international lead make-up stylist. “It’s almost a satin-y skin — not really shiny, not really matte.”

To get glowing skin like Vanessa Hudgens and Kate Bosworth, start with a hydrating moisturizer and add sheen with a dab of liquid foundation. Use loose powder around the nose and blush on the apples of your cheeks, followed by highlighter.

Sleek Pumps

Kat DeLuna and Audrina Patridge

Chunky platforms are fun, but pumps will take precedent once spring hits. Whether they’re colorful and shiny — or metallic like Kat DeLuna’s heels and Audrina Patridge’s sandals — sleek and feminine footwear is fab for spring!

Copper Eyes

Scarlett Johansson

Slate eye shadow was stylin’ for winter, but copper eyes like Scarlett Johansson’s are hot for spring. Not a big copper fan? Don’t be shy about exploring a wider range of eye shadow options! Ones to try: emerald green, rich plum, shimmery champagne and/or sultry silver.

Mod Florals

Kylie Minogue, Jordin Sparks, and Jennifer Garner

If you associate florals with that flowery pastel dress you wore in elementary school, think again! Bright, splashy floral patterns are totes hot for spring. And if you pair them with black they work as a great transitional trend. Just look at Kylie Minogue, Jordin Sparks, and Jennifer Garner; they’re wearing floral pieces and it’s not even spring yet! Hot.
