Dennis Basso Fashions at New York Fashion Show.
Posted on February 7, 2008Dennis Basso, a fashion designer, has sparked a protest against his fur coats. His fans stood up for him. Among them were Candace Bushell, the author of Sex And The City, and Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue magazine. Other celebrities who attended his fashion show were Brooke Shields and Lindsay Price.

Dennis’ fur fashions included fox jackets, mink coats, crocodile coat with lynx sleeves and alligator vests with Russian sable trimmings. He defended himself, saying that only 40% of his fashions included the use of fur. He said that the coat was first designed, and then a suitable type of fur for the design was selected.

An association called the Fur Free alliance said that it took 10-12 beavers to make a coat. For foxes, 15-20 were required to provide enough skin for the coat. A mink coat would need 60-80 minks. Every year, around 45 million animals were raised in captivity and killed for their fur to make coats.
