Are Your Feet Killing You? It May Be Louboutin’s Fault!

Posted on May 28, 2008

This article from New York Daily News isn’t about a way to make your shoes feel better, but isĀ  about a woman who stood up for herself and all other nonstarlettes.

Last week, at a party in Cannes, a woman charged up to famed shoe designer Christian Louboutin (he of the $1,000 ankle-torture heels, the boots that are impossible to get on and the super-high, red-soled footwear of choice of every celebrity you’ve ever thought of ever), tapped him on the back and yelled, “You’re shoes are killing me! Make them more comfortable!”

Now, obviously, this is dramatic and a little crazy (probably get most people booted out the door, but hey someone has to do it). The lady doesn’t have to wear Louboutin’s shoes, and she’s likely wearing them for status, because she’s at a fancy party with fancy people and she wants to fit in and show the world, “heck yeah, I too can drop a grand on bunion-causing, back-breaking, almost stripper-looking platform-stiletto shoes. I’m just like you!”…agreed!

But more importantly, in my personal opinion, Louboutin should make less pain and agony-inducing heels. And until he does, trend-setting women, mainly celebs should stop wearing them! Because it is downright anti-sisterhood to continue to perpetuate this myth that women need to be teetering dangerously on a four inch plus spike of plastic in order to look sexy. It’s total bull, but men buy into it, then we buy into it and then suddenly our collective perspective changes and we start to feel frumpy when we’re walking around in something comfortable (which doesn’t mean ugly!).

So I praise that lady at the Cannes party, because she has balls of steel!
