While most people think Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are the hottest Hollywood pair that graced the 81st Academy Awards, I’d say another couple has beat them off: Josh Brolin and Diane Lane. Brolin came in an elegant black suit while his wife wore an equally glamorous black strapless gown. It’s been years since I’ve seen a truly handsome couple aside from Brangelina, and with Brolin and Lane, I have found true love blooming all around them. Lane looked even more elegant with her necklace, that glimmered in between her skin and her ebony dress. Brolin and Lane are not much of a showy Tinseltown couple unlike most pairs these days, but whenever they get caught in the spotlight, they’re always in style.

It seems like Jessica Alba is all tired and messed up with all the “challenges” that she encountered during the past few months, beginning with becoming a mommy and struggling to gain back her pre-mommy body. She just looked very exhausted at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party last February 22, wearing an assymetrical off shoulder mini, shoulder length hair that seemed to need some brushing, and pale makeup that failed to bring out her natural beauty. It’s either Jessica forgot to drop by the salon due to her mommy-duties, or she really didn’t want to go to the party, and was there just for the sake of being there. C’mon Jess, you should dress like a hot mama now that you ARE a hot mama!

Angelina Jolie never fails to wow the audiences wherever she may go, and at the 81st Academy Awards, I could say that the A-list actress spearheaded the look of class and glamour of the event. Black has always been elegant, and nobody wears the color better than Jolie. The actress, along with partner Brad Pitt,  arrived with a subtle makeup which focused on giving her a more natural look, and this time emphasis was laid on her eyes, and less on her luscious lips. Her hairdo gave her a touch of command, which makes her look more empowered during the event. And yes, the jade earrings added a rich touch of life on her overall persona. I truly wish the rest of Hollywood’s stars would follow Jolie’s fashion sense, at least to keep themselves from being a fashion mess.

Whatever happened to 50’s sex symbol Sophia Loren? She used to be stunning during her younger days, and as she matured she became one of Hollywood’s fashion icons, not only because of her perfect figure but for her sense of style. Yes, she may have aged, but the seventy year-old actress failed to stun the audiences at the 81st Academy Awards held last Sunday, where her mustard ruffled gown made a mess out of her sexy bod. And her makeup just made things worse-she’s close to looking like a drag queen. I love Sophia Loren, I love her style, her acting, her body-everything. Everything but this. Well, if there’s anything I like about her at the Oscars, it’s her confidence in flaunting her cleavage-not all seventy year-olds have that kind of figure. But still, the ruffled gown ruined almost everything.

The 81st Academy Awards is something we wouldn’t miss, and of course we had to check out how today’s Hollywood celebrities prepared for this event. Beyonce Knowles didn’t fail to catch our attention once again as she walked down the red carpet in a black and gold mermaid gown which, unfortunately, made her not-so-fabulous that night. Okay, she can take credit for having a clean, fresh look as opposed to her usual all messed-up make-up and unmanageable hairstyle, but her dress is simply boring. For sure black and gold can be elegant, but not on Beyonce Knowles. I would have loved it more if she wore some flashy pink gown instead.

While Beyonce Knowles failed to shine at the Oscars because of her awful black and gold mermaid gown, fellow crooner Alicia Keys meanwhile wowed the cameras for coming in a very glamorous look, which is so unusual for the singer, who is known for flaunting her own fashion sense. Keys arrived in a girly pink-fuschia gown that was long enough to keep her look chic, and at the same time keep her grace during the night. While on her way to the stage to present an award, the singer tripped and walked with a limp. Good thing her dress was long enough to hide her legs, otherwise the audiences would have seen her trotting with an aching foot.

Kelly Osbourne’s out of rehab, and to celebrate, she went out with her mom Sharon and did their favorite pasttime: shopping. In this escapade Ozzy’s daughter was caught sporting a $1500 Alexander Wang leather and denim jacket during her shopping spree, but it didn’t seem to make her look hot in any way. Has her stay in rehab affected Kelly’s fashion sense? Her black crop only made her look worse, not to mention the nerdy glasses. I do hope she had some good finds in her shopping activity-I love the way Kelly poses for the cameras back then and I do wish to see her back in her rebel-rocker image.

Indeed 80’s fashion keeps on recurring in today’s trends, but Jennifer Connelly’s attempt to revive one of the era’s most memorable articles- shoulder pads. Arriving at the premiere of “He’s Just Not That Into You” wearing a dazzling emerald mini. The outfit almost made it perfectly except that the shoulder pads just didn’t make it to the cut. Is the actress under a trance during the premier? She seemed to be stuck in the time when her career first started. The boring hairstyle and the metallic pumps also didn’t do anything to save her from being a fashion tragedy that night. Does  she need to browse more on the book where her movie is based? I guess so.
