The Lady of the Woods: Holly Madison

Posted on August 31, 2009

The summer of 2009 is definitely a season of bizarre fashion trends, and Holly Madison is among them. The former Playboy favorite walks down the red carpet in a scary acacia-tree inspired gown created by some anonymous designer (don’t ever reveal who you are!) and I don’t have any idea why she opted to wear such gown. Was Holly channeling the woodland spirits to make her shine like a star in the premiere of “Live Hard… Sell Hard” or she is acting like some frustrated fairy wannabe? I think Holly should’ve dressed up as a Playboy bunny instead-she’d look better that way, don’t you guys think?

Read the Body Language: Heidi Montag

A week has passed since the 2009 Miss Universe beauty pageant held in the Bahamas, and it is only now that I realized that Heidi Montag’s costume for her production number was plain bad. What’s with the cheap looking nude-colored ensemble paired with black cross-trainer shoes? I’ve seen her in the bad times but this is really worse. Mrs. Pratt, why mess up on your first ever live production number? Who chose that costume for you? Tell us, Heidi, so we can sue them for making you look like a big piece of mess on the stage. But oh-wait! If it’s Spencer who gave you that idea of a costume, then you should get a divorce.

Playing Safe: Claire Danes

Posted on August 30, 2009

Claire Danes is among the ’90s young stars who grew up in front of the camera. We saw her fall in love on screen, rebel against her parents and dye her hair in various colors. I must admit I loved her while she was still in “My So-Called Life,” for during that time she had the spunk and freedom when it comes to fashion. After almost a decade however, Claire Danes has mellowed and rather opts for matronly dresses, just like this play-safe blue Sonia Rykel 2010 wrap dress, which yes, showed off her classy look, but made her seem 10 years older than her actual age. She looks dignified yes, but sad to say, her spunk has gone.

Red Carpet Pick of the Week: Helena Bonham Carter

Helena Bonham Carter is always notorious for her unruly, unmanaged hair, but this time her wild, untamed locks rocked the red carpet during the premiere of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” While most eyes give her a daunting look for her attention-seeking wardrobe, I say Miss Carter just takes her character roles not only by heart but also through her fashion. I like her heavy ruffled skirt, her sweet light pink jacket, her polka dot stockings and her metallic bronze doll shoes. I don’t know how she managed to come up with such queer yet enticing get up, but I really love the way it looks on her. She’s not trying hard like other stars who take on fashion to get attention, and I guess that’s how Bellatrix Lastrange made it to the top.

Booze and Fashion Don’t Mix: Lily Allen

Who would ever pair up a sheer undergarment with jeans? If you’re Madonna, thenĀ  you’re excused. But when you’re under the influence of alcohol, then you should get a grip. Brit singer Lily Allen’s been hitting it hard lately thanks to her alcohol issues, and the booze is obviously getting into her fashion sense-and her career in general. Her record company’s already furious about her drinking habits, especially now that she’s getting all the bad publicity lately. For a great singer, I think Lily should go to rehab and get away from all the high time brought by being a celeb. She needs rest, and hopefully after she’d get her old fashion sense back, the one we loved-and not this kind of outrage.

Caught Red Wasted: Kirsten Dunst

Kirsten Dunst seems to have painted the town red during one of her party nights at Cirque Lodge, but she does not in any way look hot in her red dress-more so with her unlit cigarette. The actress looks like she needs to re-enter rehab for partying too much, and it shows that she’s partying to get rid of certain problems and issues. Isn’t she supposed to be facing these concerns and have them resolved (whatever they are), rather than wasting her nights at endless parties? Dear, if there’s anything she has accomplished for being a party girl, that’s having memorized L.A.’s party place map, which isn’t always a good thing. Dear, get some rest. A lot of it.

Hillary Duff: Let’s Go Kickin!

Hillary Duff looks hotter than the scorching hot sun as she was spotted wearing a tad plaid polo shirt, Daisy dukes, a Balenciaga carry-all, and black booties. Finally, after a few fashion mishaps, the young starlet has learned how to look like a fierce chick. Hillary looks all sizzling hot not just because of her outfit, but the way she carries herself this time around. She now walks with confidence and certainty, unlike when she was younger and her unnecessary giggles were everywhere. It seems she has already transformed into a woman of substance, and I’m happy for her. Keep up the girl power!

What’s With the Black Satin Bow?

Posted on August 28, 2009

Big ribbons floating on a girl’s coif is getting back on the fashion trends this time of the year, and they didn’t even need some major reinvention! The ever versatile bow that has been in and out of the fashion scene never failed to set the trend, and these days it’s grabbing the camera’s attention thanks to celebrities such as Lauren Conrad, Paris Hilton and Kiera Knightley. They’re only a few of the stars caught with a flimsy bow on their heads, making them this season’s trend setters. As for me, the black satin bow is always a classic, and I’d give it a two thumbs up for being back in the biz. I love it!
