At the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards held at the Staples Center the other day, Alicia Keys chanelled her inner Angelina Jolie and showed off her super toned legs in a thigh high slit, while Katy Perry said goodbye to her quirky Barbie fashion but went with a gothic gown.

Alicia Keys, who attended the event with husband Swizz Beatz and son Egypt Dean, wore a sexy Alexandre Vauthier metallic silver gown that featured one-shoulder long sleeve with a defined shoulder detail, and a very high thigh-high slit, which she played up on the red carpet. She finished off her look with black crystal-embellished Gucci strappy sandals and added glitz to her outfit with Lynn Ban and Repossi jewelry.

Katy Perry, who added long black extensions to her bob, showed up in a curvy Elie Saab black gown (from the Fall/Winter 2004 haute couture collection), which featured a square neckline connected to a bow-tied leather bodice that falls down into a sheer overlay with blue and red floral sequins all-throughout, up to her full train. She finished off with black Jimmy Choo closed-toe pumps, Sethi Couture rings, floral-printed nails (which was a huge trend at the VMAs) and glamorous Veronica Lake-inspired wavy hair that Katy swept to one side of her shoulders.
