New York Fashion Week 2008: Betsey Johnson

Betsey’s Fall show was inspired by “beat chicks” and their berets, cat eye sunnies and all black ensembles. However, there were many touches of Betsey: rocker blazers, belted halter dresses, feathers, animal-print wrap dresses, oversized fur coats, and skinny pants with sheen. Compared to the other shows, whose color palettes have been rather subdued, Betsey’s vibrant hues are a double shot of espresso, that will definetly wake you up.
Betsey also showed some items from her archives and some of these prints were way out there. For example a yellow sweater with oversized handguns emblazoned on them. Betsey?! On the less dangerous side were poufy cherry-print dresses, high-waisted shorts, a hot pink mini turtleneck dress and a retro striped swimsuit. The old Betsey is back, but with a newfound fierceness.
