Today’s Beauty Look: Natural Makeup

Posted on August 13, 2008

Leighton looking gorgeous as usua; with au natural makeup.

The Look: “I wanted the makeup to reflect Leighton’s beautiful and effortless dress,” says makeup artist Christopher Colbeck, who created this neutral-toned look on Leighton Meester. “We decided to keep the colors very soft and subtle with notes of cooler tones.”

The Trick: Colbeck kept to the following neutral palette of products: Lancome tinted moisturizer, Chanel bronzing powder, golden sand Dior eyeshadow and icy beige M.A.C lipstick. He finished the look “with a light dusting of pearly white shimmer powder on the cheeks, eyelids, shoulders and legs to complement the cooler tones of the look.”

Today’s Beauty Look: Faded Eye Liner

Posted on June 2, 2008

Rachel bilson with fading eye liner.

The Look:“Subtle drama” is not an oxymoron in the beauty world. As Rachel Bilson showed at the recent Chanel Boutique Opening in Los Angeles, blending out the edge of a severe cat eye produces a subtle-yet-sexy effect. The fading smooths the harshness of a cat eye to create a perfect eye for any occasion.

The Trick:Using a creamy eye pencil, draw along your upper lashlines and blend the outer edge of the line a quarter-inch in an upward diagonal direction. Retrace along your lashline to create a more defined line.

Today’s Beauty Look: Glowing Smokey Eyes

Posted on January 15, 2008

Glowing Smokey Eyes

The Look: ”There’s a soft sweetness to her eyes. They have a lot of depth,” Chanel makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua says of Minka Kelly. To give Kelly’s gaze extra dimension, Bua used a teak-hued eye liner to rim top lashines, inside the lower lashlines and along the outer edges of lower lashes. Then she set liner by brushing on neutral earth-tone shadows from Chanel’s eye shadow quad in Dunes. “These shades create a soft glowing smoky eye, not harsh or heavy,” adds Bua.
The Trick: Bold liner looks naked without similarly bold lashes: Give eyes added depth by coating both upper and lower lashines with two coats of volumizing mascara.
